Market hours and events
There are 4 trading sessions globally that make up the 24-hour market: the Australian session, the London session, the American session, and the Asian session. Given the variety of market centers that have unique features and trends, traders can work efficiently at any time of the day.
As most of the work performed by the most eminent banks, institutions, and reputable traders occurs during these trading sessions, the market is highly dynamic.
Traders most often home in on one of these trading sessions, preferring not to trade in all markets 24/7.
For example, the most lucrative trading time for European currency exchanges is between 19:00 and 11:00 GMT. As the American session has virtually no influence during this period, liquidity is relatively low. This liquidity offers an opportunity to exploit trading sessions with some limitations.
Between each trading session is a period of time throughout which two sessions are simultaneously open. These are seen as the busiest periods as trade volume is high. It is exactly during these periods that the amounts of money exchanged peak.
